The politically radical Bread & Puppet Theater drew an estimated 1,500 people to Brooklyn’s Old Stone House on Friday, Sept. 18, as part of the troupe’s cross-country tour, with a daytime and evening variety show featuring stilting, dancing, live music, and both bawdy and solemn political skits.

The show featured stiltwalkers, group dances, acting, singing and even “knife throwing” in short vignettes that touched on topics ranging from the botched White House Reflecting Pool renovations to ICE detentions, U.S. oil interests in Iran and Venezuela, and artificial intelligence.

Happy Wednesday in New York City, where delivery workers are getting what they’re owed.

In the largest worker settlement in the history of New York City, DoorDash agreed to pay its delivery workers $131.5 million in compensation for years of underpayments and delayed wages. The landmark settlement comes after a group of delivery workers, commonly known as deliveristas, filed a complaint with the city’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection in 2023 alleging that they were repeatedly stiffed of wages or paid late. A subsequent investigation found widespread violations of the city’s minimum pay law for food delivery workers.

Approximately 260,000 deliveristas will receive money from the settlement. About 4,000 workers will receive $5,000 or more, and 27,000 will receive upwards of $1,000.

“After years of corporate greed and impunity, we are holding DoorDash to account,” Mayor Mamdani said at a press conference yesterday. “If you keep trying to rip off New Yorkers, we will be happy to make history again.”

For its part, DoorDash took full responsibility. “We screwed up, and our mistakes meant some NYC Dashers were underpaid or paid late,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday. “We’re making things right by paying every Dasher what they’re owed and fixing what caused this.”

Shortly after Katrina Gorham’s mother died in May 1988, the Gowanus Houses became home. As a child, Gorham moved from California to her grandmother’s apartment in the public housing complex, and her mothers ashes made the journey, too.

Now, 46-year-old Gorham says the remains are nowhere to be found — along with many of her and her three children’s belongings — lost in a reshuffling of tenants while a multimillion-dollar renovation was taking place this summer.
