Happy Tuesday in New York City, where hundreds of thousands of people held more than their breath for Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show.

Last year, we talked about the ā€œSuper Flushā€ —  the moments following halftime and the end of the big game when millions of Super Bowl watchers empty their bladders at the same time — causing a surge in water usage. This year, we had the Super Hold. NYC Water posted on X yesterday that the city saw a ā€œsignificant reduction in water usageā€ during the halftime show, as New Yorkers across the five boroughs crossed their legs and clenched their bladders so as not to miss the most popular artist in the world perform at the most controversial live music event in years.Ā

But fans of the Super Flush need not worry. It can not be avoided, only delayed. In the 15 minutes following the halftime show, the five boroughs saw a spike in water usage equivalent to 761,719 toilets flushing at the same time.

In the end, the star power of even the most magnetic performer is no match for municipal plumbing.Ā

A terrorism label that comes before the facts can turn ā€˜domestic terrorism’ into a useless designation

In January, two U.S. citizens — RenĆ©e Nicole Good and Alex Pretti — were fatally shot during separate encounters with federal immigration agents in Minneapolis amid an expanded enforcement operation. In both cases, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described the actions of Good and Pretti as ā€œacts of domestic terrorism.ā€

But the label ā€œdomestic terrorismā€ is not a generic synonym for the kind of politically charged violence Noem alleged both had committed. U.S. law describes the term as a specific idea: acts dangerous to human life that appear intended to intimidate civilians, pressure government policy or affect government conduct through extreme means. The definition hinges on intent.
